The Dining Room by the Dogwood Garden Club of Princeton
Congratulations and a sincere thank you to all the talented volunteers from six statewide Garden Clubs of New Jersey who decorated the official residence of the Governor for the holiday season. Thousands of visitors came to marvel at the transformation of the house into its seasonal splendor. The theme this year was Sugar Plum Dreams. Wonderful confections were found everywhere including a magnificent gingerbread house from New Jersey’s “Cake Boss,” Buddy Valastro, from Hoboken.
Visitors voted once again for the People’s Choice Award and this year it is goes to the Dogwood Garden Club of Princeton for the Dining Room. Congratulations!
Shrewsbury Garden Club decorated the front porch with a seasonal display connoting the turning of the year. Colorful garlands were hung across the jib windows with spun gold netting and stars.
Basking Ridge Garden Club created magnificent topiaries and arrangements for the stairway, sideboards and baulistraud.
The Dining Room, decorated by the Dogwood Garden Club of Princeton, included numerous mouth-watering confections by local bakeries as well as the gift box cake by a very talented club member. The silver-stacked gift boxes were actually a cake in disguise.
Fair Haven Garden Club displayed sugared fruit and hidden fairies everywhere, but only a keen eye could find them! The Sugar Plum Fairy worked her magic to much delight.
The Garden Club of New Vernon brought the Music Room to life with instruments ever where including an antique harp and violin. The Study had guests wondering whether or not St. Nick had been there!
The Warren Garden Club joined the group effort by all participating clubs to create the nutcracker’s hideaway. Big and small nutcrackers were everywhere, especially guarding The Cake Boss’ gingerbread house which filled the top of Mr. Pyne’s desk.
Congratulations and thank you to all clubs whose spaces were equally spectacular!
A special thank you to our Garden Club of New Jersey liaison, Judy McMaster, who with patience and many long hours, worked with the Foundation and mansion to coordinate club efforts and final décor. Plans for the 2012 celebration will begin soon and interested parties should contact the Garden Club of New Jersey (http://njclubs.esiteasp.com/gcnj/home.nxg) now!
